Metaphors of Movement: Level I and Level II
Four days of exploration through the metaphors of our inner mental landscapes

The four day training of MoM in Boulder, Colorado last year, organised and hosted by Steve and Connirae Andreas was attended by a wide range of people including pastors, entrepreneurs, psychotherapists, counsellors, clients, NLP practitioners and trainers and hypnotherapists. I was extremely proud and flattered by what emerged. This a replication of that same training with updated material:

"Andy provided four days of enlightenment for me to discover how I can take the client's language as clues to what is needed. I have new tools for understanding metaphors. Even how amazing movement allows those "Ahas" of change. Change is what I see and know—change in how/what moves the client in life."

"This is a simple straightforward way to shift behaviour from a congruent, respectful perspective."

"Terrific teacher!"

"We all operate largely on the metaphors we carry in our minds, but we are not aware of them. Once Andy exposes you to the world of metaphor, you will never experience the world in the same way again."

"Incredibly insightful and thought-provoking training. Andrew Austin is extremely entertaining, bold yet covertly compassionate, and skillfully models how to help chronic clients discover where they stand with their problems."

"Learn how to hear the meaning of metaphoric language—what a person believes their world looks like, and how that impacts their reactions to situations."

"This training has helped me have a completely different view of all the training I've had to this point. My view of the world and others has expanded where I can fit so much more into it."

This four day training will cover:

Part 1. Metaphors of Movement and Motion

  • Discover your physical/physiological metaphors

  • Knowing where you stand – the starting point

  • The 4 primary strategies of metaphorical movement: Which primary strategy do you rely on? What are your other choices?

  • The structure of the personal story

  • The 4 basic elements necessary for a successful metaphor.

Part 2. Metaphors of Emotion

  • Weights and measures-recognize if/how you use these in the emotional realm and its impact.

  • How to elicit tiny details of a metaphor in order to expand the metaphorical experience

  • Noticing restraint and inhibition to movement

  • The burden of guilt, stage fright/performance anxiety

  • Growing up--how and when is this a useful strategy?

Part 3. Container Metaphors, Relationships, and Stuck States

  • Time concepts and relationships--an often overlooked aspect of change work..

  • Spatial orientation and distance

  • Metaphors of motivation--use for self and in motivating others.

  • Prison metaphors: we'll look at how they crop up in conversation, and what we can learn from real prison culture that can help us with this personal story.

  • Pro-activity vs reactivity--knowing how and when to change between them

Part 4. Identity and Spirituality / Illness and Disease

  • Spirituality means as many things as there are people. Yet using the metaphor model and stripping out all content, what do we discover to be consistent and evident amongst people's search for "spirituality?"

  • The major models for illness, disease, and recovery

Part 5. The Territory / The Path

  • The destination – where are you going?

  • Intentions – positive and negative

  • Starting again – a fresh start, rebirth, a brand new day, starting over.

  • Signage and application of the map

  • Business applications

  • The structure of goals/outcomes

Booking details:

Open to everyone, and taking a step beyond any ordinary training, this special four day event is being held in the board room of the United Grand Lodge building for Freemasonry in England. Following repeated experimental workshops and input from a number of developers my Metaphors of Movement material has now been systematised and formalised to what I now informally refer to as, "The Movement." The Movement seems to parallel a number of spiritual and esoteric traditions and Orders therefore it seemed fitting to host the first in depth UK training of The Movement at Freemason's Hall in the heart of London. The fraternal order of freemasonry has no connection with Metaphors of Movement training or myself other than allowing me to use their premises and very impressive premises they are too. However, for participants the dress style is informal, but anyone attempting to turn The Movement into a cult-like entity will be encouraged to thoroughly wear a clown suit until they appear cured. This 4 day training is open to everyone regardless of background or experience.

There is no "early bird" booking price for this workshop and no clever marketing tactics. Places can be reserved by a non-returnable deposit of £100.

****Participants can attend a free guided tour of the masonic halls and building and will also receive 4 free DVDs from "Building The Rainbow Machine", client demonstration sessions using metaphors of movement, complete with transcripts and analysis.
